Wednesday 21 August … Guns of the Mary Rose, an After-Hours Talk from 7.30 to 9pm at the Royal Armouries museum at Fort Nelson with special guest speaker, Nicholas Hall, who will discuss the museum’s role in a remarkable project, including the use of experimental archaeology, and a programme of gun building and trial firings designed to replicate the heavy guns of King Henry VIII’s favourite warship, the Mary Rose, providing a fresh understanding of the Mary Rose as a new kind of fighting ship.  Tickets: £5, which includes refreshments. As well as being able to look around the house in which Dickens was born,  at 3 o’clock visitors will be able to listen to a member of the Dickens Fellowship reading an extract from one of his novels.
