Friday 29th September from 8am to 8pm … T Battery from 12 Regiment Royal Artillery will be raising money for the Alzheimers Society charity by cycling and rowing the equivalent distance from Portsmouth to Estonia, where our forces are based along side NATO allies. It will take place at the Tesco extra in Solent Road, Havant. Please go along, give them your support, and pop some pennies in their collecting buckets.

Saturday 14 October … Light up the night - Pedal Portsmouth Glow Ride from 6.30pm - 7.30pm on a 3km traffic-free route on Southsea seafront, starting on Eastney Esplanade near Canoe Lake. Portsmouth City Council’s free family cycling event is a fun way to celebrate safe night-time cycling and remind cyclists to 'Be Bright, Be Seen' in winter months. Cyclists of all ages and abilities are invited to bring their hi-vis, glow-in-the-dark accessories and lights, and take part. The registration desk will be open from 5.30pm or pre-register your details online via www.portsmouth.gov.uk/cycling ... There will be free glow drawstring bags and goodies for participants and prizes for the best-lit cyclists. Bike Doctor will also be at the event from 5.30pm for minor repairs, seat adjustments and checks.

Remember that it is illegal to cycle on a public road after dark without lights and reflectors. Anyone without lights could be issued with a £30 fine. You can get good-quality lights and cycle gear from the council at almost cost price. Just ask at reception at the Civic Offices, Guildhall Square.
