Friday 7 October 2017 is Pink Shirt Day . . BBC South Today Presenter Sally Taylor and Colleagues will be joining in to raise funds for Breast Cancer Haven in Wessex, a specialist support centre for anyone affected by breast cancer in Hampshire, West Sussex, Dorset, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands. The initiative has been set up by Breast Cancer Haven as part of breast cancer awareness month.  Everyone and anyone is encouraged to wear any kind of pink shirt and make a small donation to Breast Cancer Haven, which is the UK’s only charity that offers completely free of charge, bespoke one-to-one support to improve the quality of life of anyone affected by breast cancer. Specialist nurses and experts in nutrition, exercise, complementary therapies and emotional support provide tailor-made programmes of care for each visitor to The Haven. BBC South Today TV presenter, Sally Taylor, who has herself recovered from breast cancer is backing the campaign. It costs approximately £1000 to offer each visitor a personalised programme of 10 hours of treatments and Breast Cancer Haven relies solely on charitable donations to be able to sustain its running costs and support everyone who needs its help. Saturday 8 October …  A rare opportunity to be transported back in time at All Saints Church, Minstead at 7.pm …. ‘A Village Harvest’ will be staged by The Madding Crowd, a group who research and perform in costume, songs, hymns, dances and poems collected from 17th to 19th century village manuscripts and books. The concert blends music and words to create the atmosphere of the old church bands. The music is often sung in four part harmony, and is close to traditional or folk music.  It promises to be a lively, amusing and informative evening. The event is being held to raise funds for Minstead Training Trust’s 30th anniversary appeal. Established in 1986, the Trust works with over 150 people with learning disabilities, providing practical training in life skills, work-based skills and health and wellbeing from its base in Minstead, nr Lyndhurst. Woofs & Wellies at Stansted Park. A fun, Christmas-themed day out for all doggies, taking a walk through the beautiful grounds of Stansted. Last year saw 250 dogs of all breeds, colours and sizes walk alongside side each other dressed in Christmas jumpers, Santa hats and festive decorations. The dressing up is not just for the dogs.

This year there will be two different routes. The first route is 3K. The second choice is 6K. You can decide which you would like to do on the day. Registration from 9:00am, ready to start walking at 10:00am. There will be festive music, and hot food and drinks available from the Farm Shop. Each dog will need to be registered for the event at £5 per dog but they can bring as many humans as they like. Woofs & Wellies is a sponsored dog walk for Rowans Hospice, and each dog’s target is to raise £25.
